| F.A.Q.'s - Stop Smoking The FDA has classified low-level laser therapy devices as "non-significant risk medical devices." They pose no health risk to the patient provided when protective eyewear is worn. CLINICAL TRIALS FOR SMOKING CESSATION 1. What is the cost of the Laser Sessions for Smoking Cessation? The cost of the procedure is $300.00 (ask about current specials) 2. How many laser sessions are required? We offer three laser sessions: one initial session, one session 48hrs later, and one booster session if needed. 3. How long does the laser session take? The laser session itself takes about a half hour, but please allow one hour for your first appointment to review information about our clinical trial. 4. Does insurance cover this procedure? Insurance does not cover the procedure at this time, since it is still investigational. 5. Does it hurt? No! Low level laser therapy is completely painless. In fact, most people describe an extremely relaxed feeling after being treated. 6. How does the laser work? The light energy of the laser is absorbed by skin and cells by stimulation of acupuncture points. It stimulates your nerve endings to produce endorphins. Endorphins are produced normally by your body and are nature’s own mood lifter and anesthetic. The protocol is currently studying the production of endorphins to help alleviate the physical cravings & withdrawal symptoms normally associated with quitting smoking. 7 Where do you place the laser? The laser is placed on various acupuncture points on the body around the ears, nose, hands, wrists, knees and top of feet. 8. If I have a medical condition, can I still receive low level laser therapy? If you are pregnant, have a history of severe psychological illness or cancer, are light sensitive, or undergoing chemo or radiation we regret that you will not be able to participate in our clinical research trial at this time. If you have any other questions or concerns, please contact your doctor before visiting us. 9. If I have a pacemaker, can I do this treatment? We have had no problems with any clients that had a pacemaker, though we would suggest that you contact your doctor prior to being treated. 10. Is the laser session performed by a doctor? The laser session is performed by a certified laser technician. 11. I have never heard of this procedure, who else does this, Low level laser has been available in Europe, Canada & some Asian countries for over 20 years. We are one of the first Laser Smoking Cessation Centers to offer this clinical research trial in Louisiana. Call to see if you qualify. 12. I usually smoke when I drink. After the laser session, will I still want to smoke? We recommend that you avoid your alcohol intake for the first few days after your laser session. You may also want to avoid situations that trigger old smoking habits for a few days. You should limit your caffeine intake for the first few days as well. |
